4.5 Stars. Aeclectic: "The Alchemist Tarot is an otherworldly, magickal tarot with figures of alienesque elegance. Artist Londa Marks has hand-printed the 22 cards in giclee on fine art paper, giving them a weightly quality and vibrant colour. Definitely one for the deck collectors."

"Londa Marks -- ya gotta love her. Well, maybe not -- but some of us sure do. Her character-driven tarot images provide lots of imagination and drama, and we love getting our fix on both of those fronts. This is a majors-only deck, featuring characters from an imaginary world where the Hermetic Order of Alchemy provides guidance, insight, and wish-fulfillment through meditation and psychism."

"Dear Londa:
Thankyou for creating Crow's Magickal Tarot Deck.
It is indeed a credit to you. It has taken over 40 years of Magick & Tarot study to find me. It reaches out to me & drags me in. There are no what I call "filler" cards in this tarot deck.....a refreshing change !!!!! I'm an older Cancer male who lives in Australia surrounded by.....crows. They are one of my favourite birds (if I had to choose a favourite).....I own a myriad of tarot decks, many that I reallly like, though since getting Your Crow's Tarot as a present, I tend to use it exclusively for professional(paid) readings, again thankyou for creating it. When I was a little boy my mums dad used to call me..... Jimmy the Crow."
All The Best To You
Kind Regards
Jim ..... 2011

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE this deck!, July 4, 2003

The Londa Tarot is definately not the most 'beautiful' tarot deck in the world.....actually, at first I thought the cards were distorted looking and ugly; but then I started using them consistantly, and my divinations have never been more accurate, clear, and easy to read.
True, the artwork IS VERY stylized and at times kinda creepy....but there is also something very serene and beautiful about them as well.
What is really important when purchasing a tarot deck is how they function....and this deck functions very well (with me at least!). This is the deck that I use with friends, family, and for paying customers. Highly recommended!

The Londa Tarot reflects the unique style of the poet and artist Londa. Her characters on the cards, which remind me of elfin creatures, Strike rather dramatic poses. The "Who Are You Really?" card can be added to the other cards of the deck to create interesting possibilities in readings. The Deck is a shearly elegant with Londa's art and is one of my favorites.

I got this deck when I was 15 and I'm 22 now...this is the only deck that I will use. It is important to find a deck that clicks with you, that feels right and this was the one for me. After trying many, many decks this was the one that worked for me and I think it is very important to try as many as possible. Go with your gut, give them a try. The cards are unique and beautiful and the explanations lead you to really think for yourself on the issue at hand. Blessings!

The cards were disappointing at best. The pictures were, over all, very comic book-like. I found several pictures the were very nice, but three or four out of a deck is disappointing indeed. The book which was included with the deck was shallow and sophmoric. I threw the deck and little book away instead of selling on Amazon because I didn't care to spend the time and attention required to relieve myself of it in a fiscally sound manner.

I came across this particular tarot one night shopping at one of New York City's flee markets...it is pretty theatrical in it's appearance and rather traditional in it's postures...I have used for the last 4 years and have become very attached to it...it is very stimulating to the imagination in a rather subtle way...the colors are somewhat muted compared to the more cinematic flavored decks...I have made a fair amount of money with this deck.

This is definitely tops on my top ten favorite decks. I have been reading the tarot cards for people for several years, and I've used two or three decks before, but this one just stuck with me through the years. I have another box of this deck, unopened, just in case I lose the one I use (which will never happen).
Traditional 78 card deck, 22 major arcana and the minor arcana. The World is replaced by the words "The Universe". I would say 96% of the cards have fantastic, computer-generated graphics that are just dark and gothic. I read an interview with the author of this deck, Londa Marks, and she said this is her tribute to the animal kingdom. I was also intrigued that what inspired her to create the Crows Magick Tarot was she was lonely about the loss of her son. When she completed work on this deck, by coincidence or miracle, she was united with her son!
There are two keywoards that are printed on each card, but I personally find them quite misleading. This is by no means a beginner card. Experienced tarot card readers will either immediately connect to the fascinating imagery, or find their way around them. The astrological symbols printed on each card are also useful. For example- the Emperor has the Aries symbol on it.
For the advanced reader, I suggest that you find the softcover book that used to be very much available. Because this deck depicts mostly animals and birds, it would be useful to find out the characteristics of the animals on this deck. I also suggest that when you use this for readings, be really on a very meditative state so that you will see further into the images on the cards.
I give this deck five out of five. Thank you, Londa!

I know a couple of psychics who have used this Tarot to stimulate their own psychic dreaming. I've got about 3 dozen Tarot decks and couldn't wait to get this one. It uses the language of magick-speak....the everyday symbols of people who are deeply into metaphysics and/or the occult....a stack of familiar books on magick, for example, float through the air in one of the scenes depicted. The colors and arrangement of grahics is highly original and stimulating.

Cryptic meanings are printed on each card. Sometimes the relevance of the card to one's question is difficult to fathom. Fortunately, I have done quite a bit of divining with other decks, so I have a good feel for which information units are more useful and relevant than others. I made up my own 156 card meanings for this deck, using the card meanings printed on the cards as my springboard. Also, I used the cards each and every evening to forecast the events of my next day. I was able to see specifically what the cards referred to in everyday reality. Based on that, I made some changes in nuance to the meanings of the cards. In this way I was able to put together a really nice, workable set of 156 meanings for the Crow's Magick Tarot. The meanings of the cards are easy to understand because I am the one who supplied them. I especially enjoy the mystical touch of the cards, and this often gives greater depth to interpreting the events in my daily life.

I own several tarot decks, and this is my absolute favorite one! I get the most accurate reads from this deck. The symbols are simple yet powerful. I absolutely love this deck, and like I said, it's my FAVORITE! It is however for the more advanced reader. You need a basic understanding of tarot and it's symbols which I feel is best accomplished with the Rider-Waite deck. Do add this one to your collection however.....I wouldn't be without it.

I have been looking for a tarot deck with birds, ravens or crows in particular as Ravens are familars for me and I have had a family of them at my home for years.
In purchasing this deck the picture on the cover and the internet's assessment of "beautiful cards" made me choose this deck. The deck itself was commissioned by a person with "shaman" tendancies which would be good for anyone with native american blood or connections.
Upon arrival and looking and "feeling" the deck, it severely lacks "cohesiveness" with me. The cards are more abstract where the artist attempts to impress with visual images rather than real life bird images. The deck is for someone wanting "entertainment" at parties NOT a deck for someone who connects with the true spirit of the tarot.

I have over a dozen tarot decks and this one is the only one I use. Ever. I'm currently wearing out my third copy of this deck. I really like the art work, the symbols the artist has included (which make it much easier for me to read), and the way it handles for me. My only small critique is that there are one or two word "meanings" on each card that don't seem to fit the actualy meaning of the card. I just ignore 'em. It's too bad there is no pictures attached to this item, if people could actually see what the cards looked like, they'd be more apt to purchase the deck.

Amazon.com Otherworldly and Magickal, but Empty, April 14, 2007
By Richard and Jennifer Shadowfox (Shadowfoxtarot.com) This review is from: Crow's Magick Tarot (Book and Card Deck Set) (Paperback)
Created by Londa Marks, this deck has a very otherworldly, magickal feel. Digitally enhanced images of wildlife intermixed with different geometric shapes then sprinkled with Astrological symbols, and the truth be told, there is actually very little Tarot here. Many of the animals and objects are simply repeated in different colors, or viewed from different perspectives, for example the same snake appearing with altered color, size and angle, on The Devil, The Universe, Death and the Strength card.
It is very much a love it or leave it deck, and I fell into the former category upon initial sight. Howver, the vivid colors and foreboding, almost post apocalyptic look is possibly better suited for more experienced readers.
There isn't any cheerfulness or happiness depicted on The Sun, the Three of Cups, or the Four or Six of Wands, nor is there tragedy or catastrophe depicted on The Tower or the Nine or Ten of Swords. It has a nightmarish neutrality of no highs and no lows.
The cards contain virtually none of the traditional symbolism, and although each card contains two keywords, which in most cases only scratch the surface of the cards meaning, a good beginners deck this is not. In the Minor Arcana the number of the card is represented by the number of objects of that suit, with Coins replacing Pentacles. In the Major Arcana Strength is XI and Justice is VIII, trading places from the Rider/Waite/Smith.
The Crow's Magick Deck is a mesmerizing mixture of creature and space, color and object, and what I find appealing about this deck is inherent to me. Every individual must decide for themselves what is appealing to them, but what truly defines an individual is not what, but why, or why not? I have read that the Crow's Magick Deck is sometimes used as a meditation tool to induce psychic dreaming, so if you are drawn to this deck, perhaps a path to your own why has been placed before you.

This deck has beautiful color and metallic imagery that captures your eye against the black card back. It is a great deck to look at and use after learning from white card backs. It feels like a new level of tarot reading. Truly capturing the magic of the crow and incorporating other animal magics as well. I use about 8 different decks, and this one is my favorite for evening readings.

I was first attracted to this deck when I saw it in a specialty store in downtown Manhattan, NY. I was quite intruiged by the cover art of the box and was drawn to it and bought it.
My personal choice of decks are those of the modern theme. I find classical decks to be a tad boring. Crows Magick Tarot deck is a VERY modern deck, with clear images of creatures: crows, bears, lizards, etc. This deck is definitely not something for those who are just beginning to learn the tarot. The thing about this deck is that you will be moved to another world where your visions will be varied, and you will also find it useful to use the animals as metaphors to translate them into real people. The most important factor to consider when using this deck for reading is putting yourself in a lucid state of mind, trusting your intuitions, and tapping into your subconscious.
The artwork is enchanting, dark, but not gothic. Ignore the keywords printed on the cards because they are misleading. The accompanying booklet is also a bit off, so I completely ignored it.
I've heard on some tarot card forums that they have used this deck for spells. I'm quite familiar with spell casting as a Wiccan, but I wouldn't even attempt to do that with this one. It would just be irreverent.
This is by no means a beginner deck. If you're just starting out with tarot, try Rider-Waite, but not this one.
This is my second best deck, the first one of course is the Vertigo Tarot, which has now gone to oblivion.

I bought this deck on the impression that it contained interesting abstract imagery, which while deviating from traditional tarot symbolism, was useful for mediation. I believe I expected a greater deal of detail, surrealism and artistry, and my expectations were not met--I admit a bias for decks like Shapeshifter, Thoth, Cosmic Tribe, Celtic, and New Palladini--I love detail, skilled artistry, and a wide range of vibrant colors. Even if a deck plays loose with meaning and correspondences of the tarot, a deck can still be an enjoyable part of my collection simply on its aesthetic merits alone. Another reviewer was dead on accurate in saying the Crow's Magick deck looks like clip art. While the deck does have a few interesting cards, the deck as a whole is a bland, visually unappealing collection of cut-and past images and repetitive textures, colors and 3-D effects. A fifth grader learning to use PhotoShop in art class could have done this. Sorry to be so harsh, but its true. I tried hard to love this deck, to find its unique charm and appeal, and I just couldn't.

This is a unique perspective to tarot. The Crow's Magic, though in my opinion not as expressive as the Londa tarot, continues the artist's skill for each card to be its own work of art. I can envision the cards as door posters, some challenging any who step up to it. This deck is a bit more systematic in its expression, which is different from the previous, more expressive and intuitive Londa tarot. In this collection, Londa incorporates symbology, numerology, and pictology. Their incorporation is subtle, so unless the viewer understands the aspects in relation to the meaning of tarot, the true meaning of each card may be missed. I admit to experiencing this, so I suggest one look at the deeper meaning of each card before judging its surface value.

I ordered this deck without knowing anything about it, and I have to say that I at least was not really very impressed. The artwork to me seemed almost to be just made up of clip art. The images used on each card did not seem to have anything to do with the card itself. They were stylish, and one could say pretty in what I found an unremarkable way. But that is all, these cards did not speak to me.

Aeclectic.com Londa Tarot
The figures in this somewhat gothic, self-titled Tarot deck, the Londa Tarot, are all pale and elf-like. The minor and major arcana cards look basically the same, though the deck uses the typical Rider-Waite card meanings.
Review by Simone
This was only the second or third deck I acquired, and I have had it for a long time now, but it is not one of my favorite decks to use for readings. The people portrayed in the art are elfin and very, very thin -- the style is pretty gothic, although initially I remember seeing it as sort of a heavy-metal-band aesthetic. This is a US Games-published deck and comes with a small booklet of divinatory and reversed meanings, which, unlike many of US Games' booklets, is written by the artist herself. There are 79 cards; the extra card features a performer type of character and the words "Who Are You Really?" It is meant to function as a sort of wild card, but can be removed from the deck.
Artistically, the deck is appealing in that the images and situations have an otherworldly quality, and I sometimes get a transported or elevated feeling through using these cards, as though the answers they give are unfettered, rising above what is mundane and concrete. The androgyny of the people in the images adds to this effect for me. Londa's portrayals of the tarot characters sometimes show a succinct and unique insight; I particularly resonate with the alien face of the Hermit and the Eight of Cups "stage fright". At other times, she seems to be going out of her way to put a new, edgy spin on the cards' traditional meanings, with results that do look "different"" but not with any real sensibility (for example, the upright Hanged Man).
I find this deck especially useful for queries involving money and other superficial issues, such as connections with coworkers and other people with whom we interact on a small-talk level. In my experience it is not helpful for gaining insight about deep relationships, important life issues, or your own internal reality. I do not recommend the deck for beginnining readers, as the art is mainly in a portraiture style, rather than displaying symbolic situations or activities. For collectors, this is a nice deck to own if you like gothic and/or dark fantasy art.

Crow's Magick Tarot
The Crow's Magick Tarot is the second deck created by artist Londa. The cards have a very dark feel, probably because most of the scenes have a black background. I'm not sure how the symbols relate to traditional tarot, but the images are powerful.
Review by Crow
I chanced upon this deck while taking a stroll in Christopher St. in New York City in a store called Sticks and Stones, and I was immediately drawn to the artwork on the box. I held it in my hands and I knew I just had to have it. I have been using this deck for years since that. I even have two spare decks, sealed.
Though there are two keywords printed on each of the cards (traditional 78 tarot deck, major and minor arcana), this is by no means a beginner deck. I love the computer-generated artwork on every card but the keywords are very misleading. For those who are planning on using the Crow?s Magic Tarot, completely ignore the keywords.
With the exception of The Chariot and The Lovers, almost all the cards depict animals and creatures on them. There is a strong pagan feel to this deck, and definitely dark and gothic. Intermediate to expert readers will either immediately connect to the imagery, or feel their way around when they first attempt to read with this deck. One way to help you better understand the cards are by researching on the characteristics of the animals depicted on each card.
There are also astrological symbols depicted on each card, which I find very useful (example: The Emperor, Aries). If you have all the astrological symbols stored in your memory, you will find these very useful in your readings.
All in all, I rate this deck four out of four. If you are into modern, gothic decks, definitely get yourself the Crow's Magick Tarot. Thank you, Londa.

2011 Review By
Timeless Spirit Magazine
"...The long awaited, Londa Marks Alchemist Tarot is now available" he said as he placed the now opened box before me. He handed me the cards.
The matte finish of the Alchemist Tarot is a perfect backdrop for a colourful and visionary approach for a hermetic based modern derivative of a majors-only divination and personal manifestation system.
Reading with Majors-Only decks is a subject near and dear to my heart, and the Alchemist Tarot is a fresh new look at this continental standard.
The Alchemist Tarot is a complete system based on Hermetic Qabalah for both divination and as an aide in attaining more of the things and goals that we desire.
It's a great print job. They did everything right.
Unfortunately, six (that's about 27%) of the cards include advertising to various author owned webwwws where one may purchase more items, and even business opportunities. That kind of ruined the whole thing for me…
I set it back on the counter next to the box. "Very nice" I said."
| Alchemist Tarot Artist's rebuttal: The six cards spoken about regarding advertising cards are the cards which includes Alchemy Farm signs on them. Alchemy Farm is part of the Alchemist's territory in the storyline of the movie synopsis: The Alchemist's Spell. And, yes, these seeds are for sale. Part of staying healthy in life requires the magick that comes from a little seed which appears to be a pebble. The Alchemist's Creed is: "Believe in the Seed." The sign shows in the, ALCHEMIST TAROT CARD: XI BALANCE (above card). It's the little round green sign just below the right of the sun on the scales which has the name: ALCHEMY FARM on it. It explains this in the booklet. |
